From Texas to Sicily: an imaginary journey on the scores by Joe Schittino. Two compositions written by the italian artist will be played next week in Dallas and Catania.
On May 6th it’s the time of “Pisces – Petite Suite Ichtyologique“, a trio for flute, violin and piano composed in 2001 that joins the shape of the suite with the theme. In the composition there is a description of imaginary fishes with fairy and monstrous features in a simple writing.
The song, subject of a specialization thesis in 2012 at Istituto Musicale Vincenzo Bellini di Catania, will be played for the first time in Usa in the context of Chamber Music Honors Concerts, Caruth Auditorium – SMU Meadows Center for the Arts (a repeat is scheduled on May 7th). On May 8th the song “Het Zout” (salt in Dutch) will be played in Catania (repeat on May 14 in Palermo – Associazione Filarmonica Eliodoro Sollima). It’s a score for contrabass and piano, result of a joint venture between Schittino and Nicola Malaguini, 1° contrabass of the Teatro Massimo Bellini Orchestra. In this track the suggestion of the song of “salinai” from West Sicily is mixed to the theme of madness, with a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh. The song, showed at International Forum BASS016 in Praga, will be played by Nicola Malaguini (contrabass) and Mirea Zuccaro (piano)

Dal Texas alla Sicilia un viaggio ideale sulle note di Joe Schittino. I lavori dell’artista italiano vengono eseguiti la prossima settimana a Dallas e poi a Catania.
Il 6 maggio è la volta di “Pisces – Petite Suite Ichtyologique”, un trio per flauto, violino e pianoforte composto nel 2001, che ibrida la forma della suite con quella del tema e variazioni. In esso sono descritte figure di “pesci immaginari” dai tratti fiabeschi e mostruosi, in una scrittura semplice e rarefatta.
Il brano, già oggetto nel 2012 di una tesi di specializzazione biennale presso l’istituto musicale “V. Bellini” di Catania, verrà eseguito per la prima volta negli Stati Uniti il 6 maggio per i Chamber Music Honors Concerts, Caruth Auditorium – SMU Meadows Center for the Arts, Dallas, con replica il 7 maggio. Interpreti: Giuseppe Sciuto (flauto), Ming Yuan Song (violino), Sergio Tapanes Pita (pianoforte).
L’8 maggio toccherà invece a “Het Zout” (in olandese “Il sale”), un brano per contrabbasso e pianoforte nato dalla collaborazione tra Schittino e Nicola Malagugini, 1° contrabbasso dell’Orchestra del Teatro Massimo “V. Bellini” di Catania. In questo brano la suggestione di un canto di salinai della Sicilia occidentale interseca i temi della follia, con un omaggio a Vincent Van Gogh. Il brano, presentato nel 2016 al Forum Internazionale BASS016 Praga, verrà eseguito l’8 maggio a Catania, Società Catanese Amici della Musica; e il 14 maggio a Palermo, Associazione Filarmonica Eliodoro Sollima. Interpreti: Nicola Malagugini (contrabbasso), Mirea Zuccaro (pianoforte).
